What is ethical coffee?

Ethical coffee is a term used to describe coffee that is produced and traded in an ethical and sustainable manner. It goes beyond just the taste of the coffee; it refers to how the coffee is grown, harvested and traded, with attention to the working conditions of the coffee farmers and the impact on the environment.

What is an ethical coffee subscription?

An ethical coffee subscription is a service that allows you to regularly receive fresh, high-quality honest coffee delivered directly to your home. It works like this: you select your favorite coffee, choose your delivery frequency, and then receive regular shipments of your favorite coffee beans or sustainable pods. These subscriptions are designed to provide consumers with convenience, choice and quality while contributing to fair trade and sustainability.

Why should you choose an ethical coffee subscription?

Why choose an ethical coffee subscription instead of simply buying coffee at the supermarket? Here are some good reasons:

  • Consistent Quality: With an ethical coffee subscription, you always get the same high-quality coffee that meets strict quality standards. In the supermarket, quality can vary.
  • Direct Support: By choosing a subscription, you directly support coffee farmers and their communities. Because you buy the coffee more often, farmers know they can sell their coffee. This predictability is very valuable to them.
  • Convenience: The subscription ensures that you never run out of coffee. You don't have to go to the supermarket every time and can enjoy regular deliveries to your door.
  • Sustainability: Fair coffee subscriptions often emphasize sustainability, both in terms of farming practices and packaging.

By choosing an ethical coffee subscription, you contribute to a fairer coffee industry and enjoy delicious coffee with a clear conscience.

  • Conscious Enjoyment: With an ethical coffee subscription, you can enjoy your daily cup of coffee with peace of mind, knowing it contributes to a better world.
  • Stories from the Farmers: Fair coffee often comes with stories from the farmers who grow it. It connects consumers with the people behind the coffee.

Wakuli's contribution to fair coffee

At Wakuli, we are committed to ethical coffee. We believe in creating positive change in the coffee industry, both locally and globally. One example of our efforts is our partnership with coffee farmers in Ethiopia.

Ethiopia is known as the birthplace of Arabica coffee. However, it is also known for a system that has historically made establishing direct relationships with producers difficult. Because of a structural shortage of foreign currency, coffee exports have become a preferred method for importers of all kinds of goods to obtain dollars they need for their business. In addition, recent years have been especially challenging because of political unrest and civil war.

We were therefore delighted to visit the Jimma region this winter and meet our partner Asnake from Kata Muduaga Union. He is working hard to establish a stable, reliable business for all farmers within the union. We also met the coffee farmers of the Kolla Bolcha cooperative, who work with the highest respect for their product and the environment. They showed us that sometimes it is not about what to achieve or change, but rather what to preserve.

With our fair coffee subscription at Wakuli, you can enjoy delicious coffee that not only tastes good, but also does good, both for farmers and the world around us. Join our mission to make fair trade coffee the norm.
